In the last weeks Airbnb has been rolling out many new design changes.

In particular:

  • A new homepage

  • Listing tiles without host information and listing title

  • A new search box (including # child and infants)

  • A new design for the listing pages

  • New design and colors for review stars

  • A new header and footer

What do you think about the changes?

Thanks for the post Matteo - I'd like to know your opinion on why they've removed profile photos from search results? Presumably, they've already tested conversion rates with & without photos.

A recent study showed people rate properties on Airbnb 15% higher than on other vacation rental sites. The reason was because people rate other people more 'tactfully' than rating 'faceless' businesses. So could this be a step back?

Hey Danny, this change is still under A/B test, thus they are evaluating what is the impact on conversion and engagement.

However, an A/B test will not be able to tell you much about the preferences vs other websites and the reasons behind it (can you share the source of your study btw?).

I think this is definitely the most interesting change, as it's not just a visual one, but somehow modifies part of the whole concept behind the site... becoming much more similar to other OTA.
