Airbnb is in talks to acquire a payments startup called Tilt, The Information first reported. Tilt is a crowdfunding platform that allows groups and communities to collect, fundraise, or pool money online so they can make events and projects happen.

I presume part of their plan will be to allow friends & family to raise money together for trips, experiences & more. Great concept, be interesting to see how it progresses.

Definitely interesting. I see Airbnb using Tilt as an extra income source by charing x% for the amount of dollar raised. As far as I know Airbnb is in the red right? So that's hope that would pull them up to the green zone.

Tilt has raised $62 million! I had never heard of Tilt before reading this article. It's a simple idea & great business model - similar to Groupon. Collect money for free but charge 10% to companies selling products/services in batch.

Tilt offer the service for everything, however, I suspect Airbnb made this purchase because group purchases work best for holidays!

I love the idea but I don't think it's difficult to copy - they are using Stripe for payments. Airbnb might want to buy Tilt to direct all group holiday purchases to Airbnb and nowhere else - but I'm sure there will be copycats.. which I'm glad of.
