Great article! These really are key questions you need to be asking. I do think reputation is a big part of this, as John pointed out, but not necessarily the most important. Companies need to be given enough of a chance to have a solid reputation built around them, but if they’re just starting out, they won’t have any reputation – good or bad – and they may be your best option. I like the other questions that were brought up because they really touch on the importances of deciding on a manager for your property. Both of you should have the same goals; making the most amount of income from your property. All fees should be decided on and settled before you hire them. I think the third point is important, if somebody is promising you that you will be able to quit your day job and make millions, they’re probably not the right manager for you. Your property manager should be similar to a business manager. They can give you realistic predictions on what your property should bring in if they manage it. This is what we do at our property management company and we’ve been told it’s a breath of fresh air compared to the other companies out there who promise what they are unable to deliver. Make sure you keep the questions in this post in the back of your mind, because they really are going to help you in your search.
