This seems to be a trend:

“Vacation Home for Free,” which airs on HGTV, shows how homeowners can live in their vacation home for free if they rent it out during peak season."

Many people are travelling to second homes or using mobile homes etc. They are renting out homes for peak periods and this can cover exotic holidays or a whole years mortgage payments etc. Think top end OneFineStay and others such as school teachers who get extened holidays (8-10 weeks).

I think the interesting thing here is that younger people are buying homes in popular vacation areas, knowing that they can live there part of the year and rent it out the rest of the year. This can be a sound investment opportunity depending on the location and management of the property. It's not easy though. Knowing about tax requirements and tax deductions will keep you on the right side of the law, and also minimize your outgoings. It also requires a lot of work and planning but for the millennials out there who are digital nomads and want to use their property as a means to travel the world, this is no great hardship.
